Some random thoughts before Seniors' Camp

Some random thoughts before Seniors' Camp

Dear fellow main commies,

Just wanna drop by to say a few words. Take this as a break in your busy time as you read this.

Not so recently, Wen Ting, Kah Hui and I have been squeezing you guys dry with lots of FOC stuff (we have our hands full too). I know it is hard to breathe, especially since exams are just not long ago and everyone has their fair share of commitments and concerns besides FOC - money, family, friends and paktor just to name a few. I understand that we disallowed everyone to take up full-time jobs/commitments during the holidays. Please do not blame Edwin and Zixin for getting a full-time job because they are really having problems. Additionally, the swine flu caught us totally unaware, made us change our camp programme and emptied our pockets. It is only because of you guys that we do not have to press the panic button.

I am really glad to have joined this committee in the quest to make CAC FOC 2009 a dream come true. It has been 9 months since we formed this team and we have 2 months and 13 days to go. Do you remember why have you joined the FOC committee then? Was it really a dumb decision or have you found something meaningful?

The upcoming Seniors’ camp is an important milestone for us. It is an important gauge and factor of how good or how bad is the actual camp going to be. It will decide the sub-coms' attitude towards the camp, their morale, whether it is really worth their effort and time. A familiar analogy will be Seniors’ camp is CA 30% while actual camp is final exam 70%. If we are going to flunk our CA, our morale will be drastically affected and the sub-coms might want to MC during the final exam.

But we are also the people who is setting the paper and giving the scores. Obviously the harder the paper we set, the harder it is for us to score. So how do we know where do we stand? Just look at Sports camp, SU camp, ODAC camp, Insinyur, Hall camps, School camps, NUS camps or any camp you have been to. Are the standards we are aiming for higher than them?

Lets not forget to enjoy the little time we have left until 27th July while we are busy. It’s the friendship we should value the most and the process that matters the most :)

Jiayou!

Yours hungrily,
Max
